National Bereaved Parents Day on July 3rd each year is a time to acknowledge the unique grief of parents who have lost a child. It's a day about breaking the taboo of child loss, no matter the age or circumstance.
Our friends in the United Kingdom, who founded A Child of Mine ,are doing important work to support grieving parents and families. As they shared on their website, this year's theme is "love lives on", which signifies the deep bond between a parent and a child that never fades.
The goals for this day are simple...
Show that bereaved parents are not alone
Bring together people affected by the loss of a child
Keep the conversation going
Normalize the conversation around child loss
If you or someone you know needs support as they grieve the loss of a child, encourage them to reach out. Many of us are here to help. Watch and share my TEDx Talk on How and Why Your Should Talk to Bereaved Parents, or Vilomahs as we are known.
